The Durham Region Roller Derby (DRRD) league was formed in 2009 when a group of women created a not-for-profit, skater-owned, skater-operated roller derby league. The league is structured so that every member has the chance to be involved in the organization both on and off the track. DRRD is comprised of three teams: Competitive, Select, and House.
We welcome all individuals to skate with DRRD regardless of gender identity, shape, size, abilities, backgrounds, or professions if women’s flat track roller derby is the version and composition of roller derby with which they most closely identify. For more information, please see WFTDA’s statement about gender here: https://resources.wftda.org/womens-flat-track-derby-association-statement-about-gender/
Our mission
Durham Region Roller Derby (DRRD) is an incorporated not-for-profit, skater operated roller derby
league. We are an amateur sports organization, facilitating the sport of women’s flat track roller
derby played inside and outside of Durham Region, Ontario. The league hosts roller derby bouts
in Durham Region, as well we support and participate in roller derby bouts hosted by other roller
derby leagues in other regions. Durham Region Roller Derby is an official WFTDA member. The
WFTDA is the international governing body for the sport of flat track roller derby and is a
membership organization for roller derby leagues around the world to collaborate and network
through the collective voice of its member leagues around the world.
Our purpose
We broadly promote the sport of Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby through bout participation as
well as fundraising events. We strive to connect to our community and as such participate in
community events such as local parades, charity initiatives, and volunteering for the benefit of our
community, local charities and DRRD. We are a member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby
Association (WFTDA).
